Work with me

Bespoke Dramaturgy

I'm a big believer in designing a dramaturgical support offer that works for you and your project. Just as every writer is different, every project is different, and so the dramaturgical needs are different too.

If you want to work with me as a Dramaturg, the first thing to do is to drop me an email and book in for an initial informal consult with me.

At the consult, you can tell me a bit about yourself and the project you're working on, and I can tell you a bit about how I think we could best work together.

If you're happy to proceed, we will then co-design a bespoke framework for moving your work forward, building in deadlines, accountability and opportunity for reflection into a structured process of 1:1 support that involves feedback on your work. At the end of the process I will make suggestions for where to take your work next.

Me at work as a Dramaturg, sat opposite a fellow creative at a table messy with scripts, notebooks and provisions.

“As a Dramaturg, Chloe asks the questions that makes the spine of the play snap into place"
– Writer

“Writers like working with Chloe because they know they are in safe hands, but also they know she is not a soft touch, she will challenge them because she is committed to them writing the best play they can.”
– Producer

A script laid out on a large table surrounded by post-its: dramaturgy in progress.

Not sure what you're looking for from a Dramaturg?

Fear not! You're not the only one. Dramaturgy can be a mysterious profession, and its benefits can be easily misunderstood and even undervalued in the industry. You might want to read my blog post "what even is a Dramaturg and why hire one?" as a starting point.

Other support offers

Sometimes the bespoke approach might not be right for your project, and there's a simple problem you need support with like a fast turnaround on notes, a creative ally in the rehearsal room, a Dramaturg on speed dial, or support turning an idea into a play. â€‹â€‹â€‹

notes in 48 hours

Award deadline looming but the play's not working yet? Need to get your script to the producer ahead of the first table read? Send me your play, and I'll give you an hour of dedicated notes on Zoom within 48 hours that will unlock that block.

in the rehearsal room

Need a Dramaturg in the rehearsal room? I can help field notes, support you to make fast cuts and shape new content, advocate for you and work closely with you and the director to support your vision.

dramaturg on speed dial

Writing can be lonely. It's most definitely hard. Book me for 3 sessions over an agreed timeframe, and use me when you need me to get through those tough moments.

TURNING AN IDEA INTO A PLAY

Got an amazing idea, but stuck about how to turn it into a play? We'll get it in play-shape in no time over a series of in-person and online sessions together where we'll "find" the story, characters, structure, form and themes, and get you writing. I'll bring the giant post-its.
