Dramaturgy

"Working with Chloe was an amazing experience, her versatility and approach to her craft is what makes her
so special as a Dramaturg. Chloe can be relied upon to bring out the best in an artist's vision and help guide it to where it needs to be. I would highly recommend her for anyone who takes their work seriously and wants to make it the very best it can be”

Teaching and facilitation

I’ve taught playwriting to undergrads, young people, D/deaf and disabled writers, homeless writers, and writers in prison. I've lead a 5-session "write your first short play" course for Theatre503, tasters for local Walthamstow residents with Soho Theatre, a 10-week playwriting course in prison with Synergy Theatre Project, an 8-week writing for radio course with Synergy, poetry for change workshops with Hydrocracker Theatre and one-off workshops for disabled young artists at Graeae, among others. My workshop approach is friendly, inclusive, non-hierarchical and artist-led.
I can cover craft topics such as structure, character, action, dialogue, and theatricality, and I like to explore individual writing/making processes and unpack how writers' work can interact creatively with access tools such as BSL and audio description.

If you're a theatre or a school and would like to book me for a workshop, I'd love to hear from you.

“Woaw, such a brilliant workshop. [Chloe] instantly made us feel at home and free to experiment while dropping some real gems of advice. Not sure where two hours went – absolutely flew by!”

“Chloe was such an amazing group leader and instructor, seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. ”

“Chloe’s course more than met my expectations, it’s done something for my spirit!”

"what an excellent tutor Chloe has been. I've got a mass of notes and approaches to work on. She's also really helped me achieve the main thing I set out to do on the course which was to get the shape of a zero draft of a new short play."

I support other writers to realise their work for stage as a Dramaturg. My work as a dramaturg is informed by 15+ years experience working with writers.

I've offered dramaturgical feedback to hundreds of writers through my career. I’ve read for theatres such as the National Theatre and Royal Court and prizes such as the Verity Bargate Award, Bruntwood Prize, Theatre Uncut Award and Koestler Awards. I was Graeae’s Literary Manager for 5 years, and before that worked in the new writing department at the Royal Court Theatre. I currently work as a Dramaturg for Soho Theatre, supporting writers on Writers Lab.

Through my practice, I work regularly with a huge diversity of writers working across genres and disciplines, and at all experience levels. Writers I have supported have gone on to win awards like the Tony Craze Award (Reparations by Maryam Garad).

My process is collaborative, creative, and needs-led both in terms of the needs of the project (because every project is different) and the needs of the writer (because every writer is different).

If you're interested in bringing me onboard as a Dramaturg for your project, I'd love to hear from you.
